Terms of use

Last updated 2 September 2026

These are the terms for using Wordwhirl. Using the site means agreeing to them. They are meant to be readable; if something seems unfair or unclear, email hello@wordwhirl.app.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older to hold an account. The account belongs to a grown-up — a parent, guardian or teacher — who adds children to it. Children use Wordwhirl through that account and never hold one of their own. By adding a child you confirm you are their parent or guardian, or that you have their parent or guardian's permission.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has it. You are responsible for what happens under your account, including what the children you add do with it. You can invite another grown-up as a co-parent; they get the same access to the children and their work, but not to billing.

What we provide

Wordwhirl turns spelling lists into stories, quizzes and games. Stories and island quests are generated by an AI model, so they vary in quality and can occasionally be odd. We filter for age-appropriateness and we check that every one of your words actually appears, but we cannot promise a generated story is perfect. If something is unsuitable, tell us and delete it.

Wordwhirl is practice, not teaching, assessment or a substitute for school. We make no promise about a child's spelling results.

Your content

The word lists you enter stay yours. You give us permission to use them to generate stories, quizzes and games for your family, and to store them so you can come back to them. We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not share it with other families.

Please only enter real spelling words. Don't use the word lists to get the AI to write things they aren't for.

Paying

Deleting things

You can delete a child, or your whole account, from your account settings. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone, so download your data first if you want to keep it. Cancel your subscription before deleting your account — deleting the account does not by itself stop the billing.

Ending it from our side

We may suspend or close an account that is being used to abuse the service, to break the law, or to generate content that is unsuitable for children. Where we can, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to export your data.

The legal bits

Wordwhirl is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and to keep your data safe, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable or never lose data — please keep your own copy of anything you cannot bear to lose. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the problem.

Changes to these terms

We'll update this page if the terms change, and tell you in the app if the change is significant. Carrying on using Wordwhirl after that means accepting the new version.
